SMA Santa Maria Surabaya Blends Culture, Creativity, and Technology Through WERKUDARA P5 Project.
12 Juni 2025

As part of implementing the Merdeka Curriculum, SMA Santa Maria Surabaya continues to innovate in educating its students to become more creative, collaborative, and adaptable individuals. One of these innovations is reflected in the executions of the
Project to Strengthen the Profile of Pancasila Students or known as P5 Project, with the theme “WERKUDARA: Warung Kuliner Digital Nusantara” and the topic of Digital
Entrepreneurship.

Through this project, students are not only introduced to the diverse and richness of Indonesia’s traditional cuisine but are also challenged to develop their digital entrepreneurial skills, manage promotional content, and integrate interdisciplinary school subjects into a real-world context.

The WERKUDARA project fosters students to create and promote traditional culinary products from various regions of Indonesia. The main goal is not only to highlight these local delicacies but also to create an innovative and unique style of content that can attract audience attention and instill a sense of pride in Indonesia’s cultural heritage,
while showcasing its modern business potential. Each student group must select a specific traditional food or beverage from the province that has already been given to them by their teacher and develop a full brand concept, including a logo, packaging, product name, and a digital marketing strategy.

In today’s digital era, marketing plays a vital and crucial role in the success of any product. Therefore, one of the core aspects of this project is the creation of an unique and innovative digital promotional content. Students were guided to design compelling, informative, and targeted content that resonates with potential audiences. There were a lot of contents that were created, such as, promotional videos, digital posters, product catalogs, and social media contents. Through these activities, students are able to learn the basics of graphic design, copywriting, food photography, and digital marketing.

The WERKUDARA Project went far beyond just making unique and innovative content. Students learned that traditional cuisine is not only cultural heritage but also a business opportunity. They understood that effective promotional content is essential to compete in the current digital era, and that school knowledge is deeply relevant when applied in real-world scenarios.

Through this project, Santa Maria High Surabaya has demonstrated that education-when combined with local culture and digital technology- can lead to meaningful experiences. WERKUDARA is not just a school project, it is a real step
toward building a generation that is culturally proud, digitally skilled, and ready to take on the world of modern entrepreneurship.
